ude garami (arm entanglement)

Tonight we were working on a couple of techniques to break the grip on the gi. One of the techniques we worked on was ude garami. I found an excellent video by Yosi Sheriff. Yosi is a ninjutsu practitioner and they call the tech oni kudaki( crushing the devil). Cool name. No matter what you call it, it works. Enjoy.

Kali drills and Bjj

Hey guys, like promised i found some kali drills for you. The drills we worked on today were, (contra)sumbrada, punyo sumbrada and (higot hubud lubad) hubud.

I will be teaching the bjj class this Mon Nov 12th while Ryan is in Thailand. I might also take some of the other classes as well, i'll let you know.

kali class

Hey Guys,

If anyone is interested in kali classes let me know. I would like to start an intro to kali three Sat in a row. The first would focus on the sticks the second the knife and the third empty hands. Costs would be only $10 per class.

Instruction would follow the Inosanto/Lacoste blend kali  and Integrated weapons program taught to me by Joey.

Hey guys time once again to get back to the gym.
Classes resume Thurs Sept 13th and go until Dec 13th when we will break for Christmas
Mon-bjj
Wed-mma
Thurs no-gi grappling
all classes start at 7pm till 8-30
Cost $149 plus tax or two payments of $75plus tax. All classes included

If there is enough interest we may start a Sat morn class in the winter.

Summer Schedule

Just a reminder that Thurs the 28th is the last workout of the summer. Mike O will still be working on on Wed to help him prepare for his fight in Sep. - Oct. Lets show our support be getting in there and rolling, spar or hold the pads for him.

Mike wins!!!

Congrats to Mike O'Neill for winning his fight the other nite. Mike won by choke after busting him up bad. Here's the play by play. Post pics when i get em. Jesse Arnett vs. Mike O’Neill Round 1: Mike starts off the fight with a crushing inside leg kick that sweeps Jesse’s leg. Mike immediately lands a head kick just as Jesse gets to his feet. Mike swings and misses then pounces on Jesse not allowing him to get up. Jesse’s nose looks broken. As Jesse tries to stand up Mike starts working a front choke. He transitions to a sort of standing guillotine and Jesse taps. There was a lot of commotion after the finish about the legality of the head kick but the replay clearly showed that Jesse’s hands and knees were off the ground when the blow was landed. It was a great call to keep the fight going by referee Brian Beauchamp. Mike O’Neill defeats Jesse Arnett by Submission due toTap Out (Guillotine) in Round 1, 0:22

Summer schedule

This summer we will be closing down for the months of July and Aug. Summer is short here in Thunder Bay so go out and enjoy it. The kali in the park sessions will be starting soon, let me know if your interested. You will need a training knife, sticks and boxing gloves.

Submission Hunt

As most of you allready know Armando and Les competed in Minneapolis in the submission hunt last weekend. Armando got gold in the gi and a bronze in the no-gi. Les gained some valuable experience in competing and i'm sure we'll see him on the podium next time around. Great job guys!!! Here's a couple pics, i'll post some vids when i get them.

Yesterday we hosted another successful sambo seminar with Coach Eugene Shewchuk of Montreal. It was great to see everyone come out to learn some of the finer points of throws and locks.
Big thanks to Jonathan for hosting the event, great to see his guys come out as well,and of course thank you to Coach Shewchuk.

Here's a video that i was talking about tonight guys. Itay Gil is a 6th degree black belt in gadi kempo-jitsu (similar to combat sambo rules) he has also studied shooto, sambo, and bjj.To top it off he's also a bad ass in the Israeli army. Here's the link

Sambo seminar

Once again pma/fightcentre will be hosting sambo master Eugene Shewchuk for a four hour seminar on March 31st from 12-4pm.
Eugene is a six time competitor at the world championship as well as a bronze medallist at the all Japan sub wrestling tournie. He is also a finalist at the Taiwan san-da championship and is the sole rep for Pancrase in Canada.

cost is $45 in adavance or $50 at the door.
bring your kurtka/gi top and shorts, wrestling/sambo shoes are opptional.
